Kincaid’s has always been a
family owned and operated business and remains so today. It was started as a grocery store opened by
the Charles Kincaid family in 1946. O.
R. Gentry joined the grocery in 1947, as a butcher and meat market manager and
remained in those positions until he bought the store in 1967. Mr. Gentry continued to run Kincaid’s as a
grocery store, while sometimes making burgers for his grocery customers. The burger business took off and although
Kincaid’s remained a grocery, it sold more burgers than groceries. O. R. decided to retire in 1991 and asked his
son, Ronald, to step in and take over the business.
Ronald and his wife Lynn decided to discontinue the sale
of grocery items and run Kincaid’s as a restaurant. The front check-out stands were taken out and
long picnic tables were added to the once stand-up only eatery. The Gentry’s asked Lynn’s father, Morris
Gardner, to manage Kincaid’s and he was a fixture at the Camp Bowie store for
13 years.
In 2005, a second location was opened in Southlake. The Gentry’s have been joined in the family
business by their sons Christian and Jonathan Gentry. Together they will continue to expand
Kincaid’s Hamburgers to other locations.
The Gentry’s, however, are not the only family in the
business. Included in the family are
many employees, past and present, who have made lasting contributions to the
Kincaid’s legacy. The Gentry family
feels as if their customers are also part of their family. So come on in, enjoy a burger and join the
Kincaid’s family.
